Information and communication technology plays at present an
important role in the process of scientific, economic and social
development for any country. It aims to achieve progress,
increase production and productivity, improve product
quality and to reduce the time spent in many scientific and
administrative operations.
While the technology of information and communication was at
its beginning level in the Arab world, Iraq stepped forward to
establish the National Center of Computers early in the
seventies and to bring about computer science departments in the
universities of Baghdad, Basrah, Mousl and in the university of
Technology early in the eighties of the last century. Steps were
also taken to start manufacturing computers and to encourage the
wide use of computer in research work and in developing
administrative works. |
|
The University of Technology worked hard to possess the technology
of information and communication since the first day of its birth to
implement this technology for academic, cultural and research
objectives in an attempt to develop its administrative works. As
such, a computer center was established in the beginning of 1974
with two computers and two persons. |

The idea of
establishing a computer center at the University of Technology
at that time was very necessary for the purposes of:
Seeking the help of the center cadre in
training programming languages to its scientific departments to
provide trading to the growing numbers of researchers and
students of undergraduate and postgraduate studies as how to use
computer for their academic needs.
Practical training for the students
from different departments of the University and training
institutes and to meet the needs of other governmental offices
to use the available input devices (Punch Machine) so as to
prepare, examine, and execute their programs to obtain the final
results.
Running (Continuous Instruction) courses at the university in
relation to computer programming and its scientific applications
in cooperation with Iraqi engineering society. |
